Welcome to this weeks fishing report. The Yellowstone and Idaho fishing openers were great. We will give you the lowdown on whats happening this week on our area waters and look forward to seeing you all out there.
Madison River – The last few days have been cold and rainy. We’re looking forward to some sunnier days forecasted for this upcoming week. Nymphing with rubberlegs, San Juan worms, dips and zebra midges have been working best. As for dry fly fishing, beatis has been coming off pretty regularly. We have been fishing dry dropper rigs using a chubby and a zebra midge or rubber legs and having really good days as well.
Henrys Fork – The Henry’s Fork has been fishing well this past week and should continue to do so. We have been on the lookout for adult Salmon flies but haven’t seen many in good numbers yet. Hopefully with the warmer temps in the forecast this week, we will start to see them in good numbers. The good news is, the fish are also looking for them. Using a rubberlegs in size #8 or #10 as a dropper on a dry dropper rig or nymph rig has been working well. There are also plenty of Caddis, March browns and Blue wings around to keep you entertained.
Yellowstone National Park – The Yellowstone park opener was incredible. The Firehole river was a little high off color but the fish were hungry and our guides reported great days with many fish caught. We also found a few larger fish which made the days even better. Swinging soft hackles in orange, white miller or pheasant colors followed by a baetis, PMD nymph or other small bead head kept us on the fish all day. On top we fished white miller imitations and blue wing olives. Be on the lookout for PMD’s with these warmer days coming up. The Madison is still running high and off color and should be fine in another week or two.
Henry’s Lake – The Henry’s Lake opener was one for the record books. The fishing was fantastic. We landed many fish with several pushing double digits. Beadhead buggers on sinking lines really did the job. Buggers in black/red, brown and olive were the best producers. We were fishing in 12 to 15 feet of water mainly west of the state park along the shore. The next few weeks should be good until the water starts to warm, then look for them in the deeper water.
Hebgen Lake – Chironomids a few feet under indicators have been the ticket in the bays and shorelines. Midges on the surface has also been working well.
This is going to be a great fishing season and we are looking forward to seeing you all out there. If your looking for the friendliest, most knowledgeable guides in the area give us a call at 208-604-6968. Live long and Fish Hard!
